Our OLS heritage: reported in 2014

BOATN is a trading name of OLS Pty Ltd, which also operates OLS Australia at olsaust.com.au. On 30 June 2014, The Courier-Mail reported on OLS’s online boat and jet ski theory training, describing the online boat licence training launch as an Australian first.

The Australian Business Register entry lists OLS PTY LTD, ABN 90 162 290 128, with an active ABN from 1 October 2013. It lists BOATN as a registered business name from 19 December 2024. These are company and business-name registration details, separate from the online training history reported in 2014.

The report identifies OLS and explains the online theory component. BOATN shares that business heritage through OLS Pty Ltd; the report is not a launch date for the BOATN trading name. Today, online preparation, practical training and assessment, and government licence issue remain distinct steps. Learn more about OLS Australia or find an independent trainer.

A platform for learners and trainers

BOATN is a marine training platform operated by OLS Pty Ltd. Its purpose is to help learners prepare online and find independent trainers for practical learning. It brings information and discovery together without claiming that a licence can be earned or issued entirely online.

The platform sits between preparation and provider discovery. Independent trainers deliver their own training, practical assessment and course arrangements. Queensland Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is responsible for official licensing requirements and applications. BOATN does not act as a regulator or represent that every provider is suitable for every learner.

A clear distinction between platform and provider

Trainers are independent of BOATN. They set their own prices, locations, availability and course details. Learners should contact a selected provider directly about current accreditation, qualifications, course content, booking arrangements and any conditions. BOATN does not publish unverified trainer credentials, reviews, results or endorsements.

For Queensland, TMR says a person must be at least 16 to get a marine licence and a licence is required to operate a boat with an engine greater than 4.5 kW. Queensland requires a PWCL holder to have an RMDL and PWCL. See the official requirements and BoatSafe accreditation information.
